The Dewsbury ASC Split 1978.

The split of Dewsbury Baths ASC and the formation of The Dewsbury Dolphins ASC.

Ms. Eileen Fenton took part in the Daily Mail Cross Channel Swim on August 22 1950, and was the first woman home
despite injuring her arm.She was one of just nine swimmers out of 24 to make it across the difficult stretch of water in the
Daily Mail's first International Channel Race. She used to practice at the Dewsbury baths. Later as the ASC honorary secretary.

During the last 28 years in which time I have been honorary Secretary and chief coach of this club, we have brought forward competitive Swimmers of high caliber from county representatives to Olympic standard Swimmers, and in distance swimming from 5-mile A.S.A. champions to a world Record holder in the English Channel,
A few years ago the old baths were closed down. And the only way in which we could keep our club going, was to agree to share a club night with two other clubs of entirely different types.
Though we have tried to make this works our numbers of quality Competitive swimmers has dropped to the extent that we cannot now field a. full team, and the standard of our younger swimmers is such that for the first time we have no representative in this year's Yorkshire team for the Inter County age group championships. The standard of our senior swimmers is as usually very high with International representation county records and once again we came third to Leeds and Sheffield in the Yorkshire Bank Trophy for results in county championships.
If we do not produce new swimmers now, in a few years when our senior swimmers reach the end of their career we shall not be in a position to call ourselves a competitive clubs and our teachers and coaches will be spending a great deal, Time and effort achieving no result. Because of this we have decided to move the club to a place where we can be sure of a club night of our own.

THURSDAY 21st December 1978 will be our last club night in DEWSBURY.

MONDAY 8th JANUARY 1979 will be our first club night at SUN LANE BATHS, WAKEFIELD.
Teaching and Technique sessions will be held at 7.30 pm and competitive groups will commence at 8.15 pm.
All our present teachers and coaches will be moving with us to Wakefield, and we shall be pleased to see as many as possible of our swimmers there as well.
We accepts with regrets that lack of transport will make it impossible for all of our members to accompany us to Wakefield but if you are unsure about what club swimming is available, to you in the futures please go to the club table any Thursday evening, where there will be senior club members to advise you.
Miss E Fenton. Honorary Secretary. 1978
