Dewsbury A.S.C. Club Gala Reports GALA 1 Huddersfield 14 January 2018

A great start to the club's new year.

The club travelled with a young team and for some their first ever competition. So the Kirklees and District Gala was the perfect event to gain the experience.

Olivia McLarnon, Henry Haigh,Louie Firth and Millie Rose Ward made it to the final in the mixed team event. Then shortly after Tia Clarke made it through to her Final.

Event 11 saw 4 young men swimming, 3 of which were Dewsbury. A nail bitting event were the positions kept changing all the way through the hundred. Finally Josh Sykes just missing out on the 1st prize with his brother Reece coming in 3rd and Luke Hast chasing in just behind to take the 4th position. The Bowler sisters Laura and Nicole showed the younger ones on how to get the job done. Olivia McLarnon got through to another final, along with Millie Rose who was new to the competition side of swimming.

Another new face to the gala scene was Matilda Blakely who also got into her first final. Felicity Hutchinson (recently joined the club) also swam into two finals. Ben Stevens and Sam McLarnon showing their consistency by also making 2 finals each. The open age freestyle race was a must watch. The final heat was hot hot hot with everyone in the frame of mind just to do enough to get to the final. A Brighouse swimmer had over ideas and set an outstanding pace. Rob Haigh really had some work to do in the final. Everything was left in the pool with Rob fighting all the way and extreme pace but loosing the last 15 metres to an extremely talented 15 year old from Brighouse who set 1 minute dead time.

The Masters always an entertaining event with James Meehan and Rob Haigh taking 1st and 2nd in their age category. Dan could only manage a 3rd in his age group. Looks like more training is required for the big man.

The star of the show goes to Katelyn Haigh who amazed the whole team with her efforts at backstroke. Not phased by rivals she dominated the water and put in such a great swim. Katelyn's reward was a gold medal and trophy. Well done Katelyn.

The whole team did extremely well showing lots of possitives for future events.

Thank you to all our supporters and Coaches Karen Haigh Rob Haigh James Meehan and Dan Hines on poolside.

A big thank you to Matthew Haste and Jez Sykes for time keeping at the last minute. You did a great job.

A EVEN BIGGER THANKS TO DAN HINES FOR THE TEXT FOR THIS REPORT
